Writing specification/quotation for any product you intend to get buyers for exportation has always been a pain on the neck for most exporters, especially for beginners. Today I will be sharing with you how to write specification for soy beans.


What is product specification

Product specification in the context of exportation refers to lists or sets of requirement a product should have. When you finally get a buyer for your export product,the first thing the buyer wants is the product specification. It is the product specification sheet a buyer will use as a reference for quality control. The products that is exported is checked and inspected against the specification that is why specification is very vital.


Why is product specification important?

Product specification enables a buyer/inspector understanding the neccessary requirements a product must meet.

Specification enables clear agreement between a buyer/supplier.In such a way that when a specification is not clear,a supplier may be tempted to supply products that are inferior.


It is important to know that different products require different specifications for the purpose of these blog, we will look at the specification for soy beans.

Purity:  the purity percentage% of soy beans should be determined by the uniform size, weight, free from dirt,debris,stones,leafs and pest.

Moisture: this has to do with the amount of water in the soy beans. It is usually measured in percentage

Foreign matter: Foreign material includes any material other than whole soybeans or splits soybeans left in the sample after the removal of dockage. Such as finger nails,coins,bolts,plastics.

Colour: this refers to the color of the soy beans eg brown,natural,black etc.

Protein: the protein percentage level of the soy beans.

Damages: It is the percentage of bad soy beans seed caused as a result of fungi,heat,transportation,harvest,storage etc. It can be identified through discoloration. 

Oil content: this is the amount of oil present in soy beans as supplied to an end user.the oil content in soy beans is determined in percentage. 

Origin: The origin/source of the product eg Nigeria

Glycine: It means the name of the product eg Soy beans.

Package: This is how a supplier/buyer wants the products to be packaged eg 2kg,50kg,500g,100kg.
